Transforming Police Canines into Robotic Canine Units
The U.K. police force is excited about the innovation of turning police dogs into “Robodogs” as some sections of media call them. They already risk injury and death while tracking criminals, chasing them and restraining, sniffing money, drugs, and firearms, and spend a large part of their life crammed in the back of police vehicles. Now they have to wear body armor and a helmet weighing one kilogram.
The police said that the camera was exactly what they were looking for in order to improve their firearms support capability. The camera is easy to use, integrates perfectly with our IT system and is cost-effective.”
The camera, which weighs 1kg, is lightweight and comfortable to wear. Dogs have gotten used to the camera without any problems. But, if they could speak, they may not agree that the device is a tripod on four legs. It’s not natural. I imagine that these helmets for cameras will soon be widely available and dogs will be tearing around parks and countryside filming videos for vloggers.
How long before the police dogs are armed?
It is hoped that these helmets “transform firearms scenarios” which means that dogs will be sent first to film the scene before sending a human officer in. However, they will not be able to help in the event that a dog is attacked. Dogs will still be sent to confront armed offenders but we’ll have a video for tv documentaries. I wonder how long before they are equipped with remote guns.
The dogs will have to wear protective clothing, perform dangerous tasks to save their human colleagues and hopefully not suffer the same horrific injuries as Kuno the British military dog .
